Karen Anderson-Fignon is the founder of the Environment and Personality Intuitive Card Sort (EPICS). She has a private practice where she helps individuals struggling through a transformative time. Karen uses EPICS as a springboard to explore and develop career and life choices. She believes that we know intuitively what will provide us with a fulfilling and meaningful life but sometimes need to tease it out.
EPICS is registered in the United States Library of Congress and has been used in various career development settings such as public schools, YWCA with at-risk students, refugees, and other programs.
The Environment and Personality Intuitive Card Sort (EPICS) uses intuitive career strategies to help you discover or rediscover areas of interest that have been forgotten, put aside for other priorities, and have suddenly reappeared in your thoughts. EPICS can affirm intuitive feelings you have about yourself and your self-expression. Understanding how you express yourself and the type of environment you are most comfortable in can help you look at new, fresh opportunities or changes. EPICS, used in conjunction with other assessments, could help in resume building, enhance career qualifications or point you in the right direction for career and life satisfaction.
EPICS was tested for reliability and validity for unity with the Holland Interest themes on students, professionals, and individuals interested in pursuing a second career. Today, EPICS has been used in helping students of all levels (including students who are ESL learners, at-risk youth, and with disabilities), returning veterans, empty nesters, and professionals who are seeking more satisfaction and meaning in their current careers.
The Environment and Personality Intuitive Card Sort is based on the Holland interest themes, a cornerstone in career counseling. EPICS helps you to recognize dominant themes/characteristics within your personality that are necessary to express in your environment. These themes can help clarify and reaffirm your more robust features to incorporate into career choices or work transitions to make them meaningful and successful.
The EPICS also helps to identify and address the obstacles and challenges that interfere with career selection or transition. The EPICS consists of picture cards designed to evoke intuitive, emotional, and cognitive responses. Past experiences, emotional ties, and intuition influence the responses. Being a right-brain strategy, the EPICS also can help identify obstacles and barriers that hold back someone from moving forward with career exploration. In addition, the EPICS can be a springboard for exploring career and personal transitions.
