90 min. Secondary Education Professional Development Workshop

Professional Development workshop for educators, teachers, counselors
Adult participants during COVID for professional development

Educators will be able to facilitate the use of EPICS for students confidently. This self-directed program refreshes your knowledge of the Holland themes and how to make the most of the activities offered in the school program.

When choosing a career path for yourself, did you consider your six Holland Interest Themes? Did you discover your ideal environment, values, and personality type before choosing your career? Do we allow job seekers to do those things during their WBL curriculum or transition program? During this session, you’ll experience research-based career exploration based on personal intuition, visual processing, and brain science.

As a professional development (PD) workshop, educators and staff will learn about the six Holland themes, take the assessment, and have the opportunity to reflect and introspect on their current career choice. Through 1-2 hands-on exploration activities**, participants will walk away with a deeper insight into their ideal careers. They will also be ready to use the EPICS method for career exploration and WBL in their schools & organizations.

Learning Objective 1: Experience a new and different career exploration by relating the 6 Holland Interest Themes, right-brain processing, intuition, and visualization in a professional development workshop.

Learning Objective 2: Get trained on administering EPICS Career Exploration to disseminate it to students, school districts, and other organizations for transition and career/life development.

Learning Objective 3: Learn how to interpret results to identify potential career or career pathways.

Learning Objective 4: Become aware of 3 typical obstacles or barriers in career exploration.

Learning Objective 5: Reflect and introspect on career/life choices through worksheets and hands-on art experiential adaptable for adults and students alike.*

Learning Objective 6: Participants can translate their learned skills to facilitate EPICS to their students.

*When educators and staff participate in the PD workshop, they are to take the assessment for their personal career growth, opening visions on future professional development and achievements. Usually, the process will reignite one’s passion and reason for working in education.

” I was amazed at how much I learned about myself and the environment I can work best in. The Epics assessment was spot on about my personality/ working style but the environmental style was enlightening information! And it was actually fun to do! ”

I truly enjoyed the EPICS workshop as a wonderful way to discover those more creative pieces of myself which impact my teaching. Whether I realize it or not, I bring ideas to my instruction that are formulated by my hopes, experiences, and dreams; what’s important to me, I hope to make important to others, and my EPICS journey helped me discover this.

The counselors and coaches program* is a 3-hour onsite workshop or a 90-minute virtual session. EPICS wants to be confident that anyone who uses EPICS in their practice has been trained in the Holland themes, the imagery, and the interpretation of the individual’s results and can help them go more profound as they peel back the layers.

65% of the population are visual learners, and 60-80% of learning is through optical technology. Visual literacy is necessary to keep abreast of the evolving times. Work is the second largest activity we do in life; our work must align with our professional and personal values. Providing a visual career assessment program incorporates the intuitive process with the cognitive, creating a universal design for the learning and processing experience. Being adaptable, a visual assessment has the potential to tap into interests and possible vocations which may need to be explored due to the inability to verbalize a concept or other barriers.

The EPICS establishes a person–environment congruence through manifesting a concrete perception. This definite perception is formed when an individual project him or herself into the image and incorporates their influential emotions and intuitive elements. By using the language of vision, the mind considers the colors, forms, images, any emotional connection, and experiences references and, in a few seconds, links it to personal experience, interest, personality traits, and biases.

The EPICS assessment offers jobseekers the ability to recognize self-knowledge, improve confidence and provide self-validation. At the same time, they strive towards economic self-sufficiency by identifying career pathways that align with values, interests, and goals.

The EPICS can be used to jump-start conversations with results that are unique to the individual. The person-centered methodology springboards into the realm of possibilities with an inclusive approach. This perspective considers life/work/artistic/talents/interests- where everything counts when formulating a strategy.

Job seekers aim to identify a “good fit” career options during the discovery phase of customized employment plans. EPICS identifies career pathways and occupations utilizing brain science to elicit responses. EPICS utilizes intuition (gut responses from emotions, interests, and experience), creating concrete and cognitive results for the job seeker to use toward identifying a career pathway and occupation.

STUDIES SHOW…   that providing self-help and personal and professional growth opportunities for employees leads to happier and more productive work environments.

  • Productivity A recent study by economists at the University of Warwick found that happiness led to a 12% spike in productivity when employees reported being happy and having invigorating positive emotions, while unhappy employees’ productivity nose-dived by 10%. *
  • “Financial incentives aren’t enough to make for highly productive employees. Professor Andrew Oswald, one of three researchers who led the study, said companies that invest in employee support and satisfaction tend to succeed in generating happier workers.”*
  • At Google, initiating such programs lead to a 37% employee satisfaction. *
  • “Shawn Anchor, author of The Happiness Advantage, has found that the brain works much better when a person is feeling positive. At those times, individuals tend to be more creative, better at solving problems and are more effective collaborators.*

Why Happy Employees Are 12% More Productive

Like the DISC assessment, Myers-Briggs, and many other assessments, EPICS can be used as a personal development exercise for your employees.  Activities help individuals explore new interests as well as unearth old passions.

EPICS can be used as a self-directed program in a group setting and be tailored to meet your company’s needs.
